In March 2003 the United States, backed by its faithful lieutenant Britain and a hastily-concocted ‘Coalition of the Willing’,  invaded Iraq following a campaign of lies, manipulation, propaganda and manufactured intelligence.

After smashing Saddam Hussein’s decrepit army, the invaders proved unable  to install their puppet Ahmed Chalabi in power or ensure security, and began a neo-colonial occupation that soon produced a ferocious counter-reaction.

I’ve just read Rami Zurayk’s magnificent War Diary: Lebanon 2006, a searing account of the 33-day Israel-Hizbullah war that began in July 2006, when Hizbullah carried out a cross-border raid in which 2 Israeli soldiers were kidnapped and 3 killed.

Pity Richard Goldstone.  Relentlessly and ruthlessly pilloried by Israeli politicians and the Zionist propaganda machine for his UN investigation which had the temerity to find Israel – and Hamas – guilty of war crimes during Operation Cast Lead in 2009, he is now having second thoughts.
